Up to 9 Inches Expected in Parts of Maine

MONTPELIER, Vt. — Snow is falling throughout northern New England, with speeds reduced on snow-packed roads, crashes and spin-outs, and numerous schools canceled or delayed.

The National Weather Service forecast snow across Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine with up to a foot of snow forecast for parts of southern Vermont. At least several inches were on the ground in parts of the region by Monday morning. Rain was expected to mix with the snow in southern New Hampshire.

In southern Maine, crashes were reported on the Maine Turnpike in West Gardiner, Saco, South Portland, Biddeford and Portland. There was no immediate word of injuries.

A winter-weather advisory lasts through most of Monday. A winter storm warning was issued for Vermont’s two southernmost counties, with up to a foot of snow forecast and up to 9 inches in parts of New Hampshire and Maine.
