After Long, Cold Winter, Warmth Finally Arrives In Maine

PORTLAND, Maine - The time has finally arrived for Mainers to reconnect with a long, lost friend - the sun.

Forecasters say parts of Maine will see 80 degree temperatures and sunshine on Wednesday. The good weather's expected a day after many residents woke up to frost on cars and a cold drizzle.

The sunshine's also visiting the state after a long, cold winter that seemed to linger through most of April. Portland, the state's largest city, set a record for coldest day at the midpoint of April in recorded history on April 15. It was 28 degrees at midday that day.

The Portland Press Herald reports the National Weather Service warns Mainers not to swim in the ocean. Ocean water temperatures are expected to remain in the 40s, and hypothermia is possible.
