Barney Frank, Jon Fishman to Speak at Maine Democratic Convention

The Maine Democratic Party’s state convention won’t feature a keynote speaker this weekend, but the event will feature well-known surrogates speaking on behalf of presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

Party officials confirmed Thursday that former U.S. Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts will speak on Clinton’s behalf Saturday morning. Former state Sen. Troy Jackson and Phish drummer Jon Fishman will represent Sanders.

Jackson is best known for his run-ins with Gov. Paul LePage and for a rousing speech at the Democrats’ state convention in Bangor in 2014. Fishman’s band made its name in Burlington, Vermont, where Sanders was once the city’s mayor.

The convention will be held Friday and Saturday at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. The party will select the 30 delegates who will represent Maine at the national convention in Philadelphia that begins July 25.
