Birding in Maine

Listen to a rebroadcast of our earlier show on birding:

Look, up in the sky, it’s a bird.  But what kind of bird?  And where are the best places to bird-watch?  We’ll discuss the spring bird migration and also share tales of birding in Maine with highly esteemed birding experts.

Guests:  Peter Vickery, president of the Center for Ecological Research. He is on the graduate faculty at the University of Maine, Orono and the Department of Natural Resources Conservation at the University of Massachusetts. He is the author of the Grasshopper Sparrow account for The Birds of North America, was co-author of 'Biological Diversity in Maine' and 'A Birder's Guide to Maine', and has edited two books: 'Grasslands of Northeastern North America: Ecology and Conservation of Native and Agricultural Landscapes', and 'Ecology and Conservation of Grassland Birds of the Western Hemisphere'. He is presently working on a new book on the birds of Maine.

Jan Pierson, one of the founders of Field Guides and a veteran of more than 35 years of international birding and guiding. He has traveled far and wide to all continents, yet some of his favorite birding experiences remain simple ones: spring warbler migration, savoring good, long looks at birds, be they rare or common, tropical or temperate, and watching other birders thrill at their first-time discoveries.
