Body of Bar Harbor Man Recovered from Pond in Franklin

Divers have recovered the body of a Bar Harbor man who went missing Sunday in Donnell Pond in Franklin after he jumped off a stopped motorboat to retrieve a water bottle that went overboard.

Authorities say the body of Ian MacDonnell, 33, was found at about 10:00 this morning by Maine Game Warden divers.

MacDonnell was boating with four other people Sunday in a 16-foot Bayliner motorboat Sunday when he jumped off the boat.  Wardens were first called to the scene at about 5:35 p.m., and searched for MacDonnell until dark. The search resumed this morning.

Officials say there were life jackets on the boat but they weren't being worn at the time. The incident remains under investigation.
