AUGUSTA, Maine- Maine Department of Health and Human Services administrator, Ricker Hamilton, will serve as the department's acting commissioner. Hamilton, who holds a master’s of social work from Boston College was appointed to the post by Gov. Paul LePage on Friday, to fill the hole left by the resignation of Mary Mayhew.
Mayhew announced on Wednesday her intention to depart.
LePage says Hamilton has years of experience in welfare reform and mental health, and has managed important services for the disabled and elderly.
It's unclear what Mayhew plans to do now, although her name has been floated as a potential candidate for the 2018 governor's race.
