LEWISTON, Maine- Social activist, author, and educator, Geoffrey Canada, will address students Sunday morning, when Bates College holds its annual commencement exercises.
Canada is known for his work with inner city youth in his native New York City, and serves as chair of the Children's Defense Fund. But it's not Canada's first visit to a prestigious Maine college; Canada graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, class of 1974, before going on to Harvard University.
Today, he receives a Doctor of Humane Letters from Bates.
Also being honored at Bates' 151st commencement will be Republican Senator Susan Collins, modern art advocate Wanda M. Corn, Bates class of '62, and Lewiston native, and actor Patrick Dempsey.
