Fair Season Kicking Off In Houlton

The state's fair season gets underway this week in Northern Maine.

Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry Commissioner Walter Whitcomb says Maine's agricultural fair season is an opportunity for young people to learn more about one of Maine's fastest growing industries. Whitcomb says the value of Maine's farm products has increased 24% in recent years with more farms being added every year.

Maine has 24 licensed fairs that run from early July to the seasonal wrap up with the Fryeburg Fair in October, netting about 1.5 million dollars in fair premiums for exhibitors.

The season kicks off this Thursday with the Houlton Agricultural Fair.
