MADISON, Maine — Two former Madison police officers say they were discriminated against due to their age when the town transferred police operations to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office last year.
The Morning Sentinel reports David Trask and Joseph Mitchell filed separate complaints in April with the Maine Human Rights Commission that named the town of Madison as a defendant.
The complaints allege that Trask and Mitchell were stripped of their ranks and lost both seniority and benefits they had with the Madison Police Department when the transition was made to the sheriff’s office in July.
Trask and Mitchell say their seniority was downgraded to the same level as three younger officers and they lost priority in bidding for shifts.
Madison Town Manager Tim Curtis declined to comment on the complaints.
