Group Seeks Access to Energy Planning Documents

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) _ The Conservation Law Foundation is asking Vermont for access to more documents about energy plans in New England that it says are shrouded in secrecy.

The foundation filed an appeal to Vermont agencies on July 9 seeking copies of records related to electric system transmission, gas pipeline capacity and electricity imports from Canada.

Advocates already received some documents from their original March requests, but CLF Senior Attorney Sandra Levine says they want to know more about some state documents withheld because of executive privilege. The state hopes to respond to the appeal by mid-week.

CLF is also asking the New England States Committee on Electricity for documents. That committee said Monday they are not subject to state laws referenced by CLF and that they are not producing an energy plan.
