Healthcare Advocates: Report Confirms GOP Proposal Bad for Maine

LEWISTON, Maine - A Congressional Budget Office report released Monday confirms Emily Brostek's concerns that the Republican proposal to replace the Affordable Care Act will leave Mainers worse off.  Brostek is executive director of Consumers for Affordable Health Care.

“This plan is particularly concerning for Maine because we have such a large percentage of our population that's older, and they're going to be hurt the most by this proposal,” Brostek says. “One in five people who buy a plan on our marketplace right now is 55 or older and those people are going to see their premiums and out-of-pocket costs skyrocket the most.”

In a statement, Maine U.S. Sen. Angus King, an independent, says the federal report should be a wake-up call to abandon the GOP proposal. King says lawmakers should instead create a bipartisan plan to fix the Affordable Care Act.
