Maine Coach Says Sex Abuse Allegations Are Lies

PORTLAND, Maine — A legendary basketball coach removed from the Maine Sports Hall of Fame and the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame because of sex abuse allegations says the accusations are "unfounded lies."

Seventy-two-year-old Ordman Alley issued the statement Monday through a Bangor law firm.

The Maine Sunday Telegram reported that a letter written in 2005 by a former student led to his removal from the inaugural class of inductees to the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame and his expulsion from the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. The newspaper first reported last week on the actions taken against him by the two halls of fame.

The former coach at Jonesport-Beals High School in Washington County acknowledged receiving a letter from a former student but said it described "incidents which simply never occurred."
