Speaking in Maine features the keynote address from the Mainebiz “Conference on Maine Energy & How to Build an Economy Around the Energy Industry.” The speaker is Dr. Habib Dagher, director of the Advanced Engineered Wood Composites Center at the University of Maine at Orono.
Dr. Dagher says Maine can be a leader in the wind industry as it has the necessary deepwater ocean resources as well as plenty of wind within a 50 mile radius of the coastline to be an important producer of wind energy. But he says, wind power alone can’t power the state, and he compares Maine to Denmark and it’s partial use of wind power, and talks about Norway’s efforts with deep water turbines.
