Moose Hunt Hearing This Week in Greenville, Maine

GREENVILLE, Maine (AP) _ Maine hunting regulators will hold a hearing in Greenville, Maine, that will play a role in determining the total number of moose hunting permits the state issues this year.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife is considering issuing 2,815 moose permits, the fewest in 12 years. The April 24 hearing concerns the number of permits to be issued in one of the wildlife management districts in the central part of the state.

The area around Greenville is slated for 100 bulls and 50 antlerless moose permits. Regulators say that number could change based on the feedback they receive at the hearing.

Last year 53,577 people applied for one of the permits, which are subject to a lottery.

The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Greenville Consolidated School.
