Moose Hunting Ends for Year in Northern Maine

CARIBOU, Maine - The moose hunting season in northern Maine is drawing to a close.

Moose hunting ends on Saturday in four of Maine's wildlife management districts that are located in the far northern part of the state centered in Aroostook County. The hunt also ends in one wildlife district located in the northeastern part of the state. Moose hunting will continue until Nov. 29 in five wildlife management districts in southern and coastal Maine.

Maine reduced its number of moose hunting permits from 4,110 in 2013 to 3,095 this year. State officials say winter ticks have helped reduce the moose herd from 76,000 in 2012 to between 65,000 and 70,000.
