MPBN's Irwin Gratz Named Maine Association of Broadcasters Chairman for 2015

The Maine Association of Broadcasters has announced that Irwin Gratz of the Maine Public Broadcasting Network will serve as the new chairman of the organization for the coming year.

Gratz moved to Maine in 1978 and worked for 12 years in commercial radio in Sanford, then Portland, before freelancing for MPBN starting in 1990. He has been the local anchor of NPR’s Morning Edition news show since September 1992.

From September 2004 to October 2005, Gratz served as national president of the Society of Professional Journalists, the nation's largest and most broad-based journalism organization. He holds a master's in journalism from New York University.

An avid swimmer and astronomer, Gratz has completed five Peaks Island-to-Portland swims and periodically presents at the Southworth Planetarium in Portland.

The Maine Association of Broadcasters represents more than 125 radio and television broadcast stations in Maine. The organization serves two primary groups: the broadcasters of Maine and the people of Maine through airing public service announcements to providing breaking news and weather information. The Association’s Board of Directors represents all facets of the broadcast industry in Maine — TV and radio, commercial and nonprofit, large and small market, college and religious stations.
