Music That Moves ME Instrument Donation Project

Each June, Maine Public collects "previously loved" working musical instruments that may be lying about in an attic or garage and gets them into the hands of Maine children who would love to play, but don’t have the resources to either rent or purchase an instrument of their own. There are hundreds of aspiring young performers across the state who would LOVE to have access to an instrument.

We will place collection bins in the foyers of each of our lobbies in Portland, Lewiston and Bangor and hope that you can take the time to dig out that old flute or trombone and drop it off!

Drop-off locations will be:

  • Bangor: 63 Texas Avenue
  • Lewiston: 1450 Lisbon Street
  • Portland: 323 Marginal Way

We will be accepting instruments between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday this coming June. Pianos and drums cannot be accepted. And our partner in the drive, The Gifts of Music, will refurbish the donated instruments and place them in communities across Maine.

Requests for musical instruments should be made through your school's Music Department and should be sent to us at music@mainepublic.org.
