BAR HARBOR, Maine - The National Park Service says Maine's only national park has a $57.6 million backlog of deferred maintenance.
The service released statistics about deferred maintenance about national parks around the country on Friday. Acadia National Park's deferred maintenance is part of $11.49 billion around the system. The Maine park's total includes about $10.2 million for trails and $19.2 million for paved roads and associated bridges.
The service says work on infrastructure including roads, bridges and trails that has been put off for more than a year is considered deferred maintenance. The service's budget request for non-transportation assets includes an increase of $242.8 million it says would help restore "highest priority'' assets.
The release of the deferred maintenance statistics comes as Acadia National Park is planning fee hikes that start May 1.
