SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A former resident of a Skowhegan homeless shelter has been charged with stealing a cabinet full of prescription medications from the facility.
Police Chief Edward Blais says 45-year-old John Donovan moved out of the Trinity Men's Shelter after last weekend's theft.
Donovan was arrested Wednesday and charged with unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.
Police tell the Morning Sentinel he was arrested at an apartment where he was staying after another resident called police.
The drugs were recovered, but police are holding them as evidence, leaving shelter residents without their medications. The drugs, which belonged to about 75 shelter residents, were valued at more than $1,000 and included stimulants, painkillers, antidepressants, asthma medication, and medicine to treat mental and behavioral health issues.
It's not clear of Donovan has a lawyer.
