BANGOR, Maine - The Maine State Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the deaths of two people found inside a burning delivery truck Wednesday night to be homicide.

"From that, we took our investigation into a slightly different area and began to explore any and all avenues to help us figure what had happened and how that came about." says Sgt. Wade Betters with the Bangor Police Department.

Betters declined to say how exactly 43-year-old Michael Bridges and 36-year-old Desiree York died, or how they came to be inside a delivery truck.

The truck, says Betters, likely belonged to a business at Penobscot Plaza, a small shopping center on Washington St, where the victims were found by fire fighters who arrived to put out the blaze around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday. Both victims were lately of Bangor, but, according to Betters, led a transient lifestyle and appeared to be homeless. Both victims were known to the police. Betters declined to speculate on motive, or whether the police have any suspects.

"Right now, we have no information suggesting that anyone else in the public is in danger right now." says Betters.

Detectives from the criminal investigation division are investigating the case with assistance from the State Fire Marshall’s Office. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Jeremy Brock at 947-7384 ext 5740.
