Portland Police Seek 'Person of Interest' in Sexual Assault on Child

PORTLAND, Maine - Portland police are asking for the public's help in locating a 25-year-old Portland man they say is a "person of interest" in the sexual assault of a young child in the city's East Bayside neighborhood early Sunday morning.

Authorities say they want to question Julian Soto.  Portland Police Chief Michael Sauschuck says officers responded to a reported burglary which had just occurred. "The investigation revealed that a young girl had been assaulted at that residence, and we believe the crime was broken up by an adult who heard a disturbance in a back bedroom and then superceded at that point," Sauschuck said at a news conference this afternoon.

Authorities are advising area resident to lock all doors and windows and report any suspicious activity to police.

Ed is a Maine native who spent his early childhood in Livermore Falls before moving to Farmington. He graduated from Mount Blue High School in 1970 before going to the University of Maine at Orono where he received his BA in speech in 1974 with a broadcast concentration. It was during that time that he first became involved with public broadcasting. He served as an intern for what was then called MPBN TV and also did volunteer work for MPBN Radio.
