Portland Renews Lease For Maine-Nova Scotia Ferry Terminal

PORTLAND, Maine — The City Council in Maine’s largest city has decided to keep renting space to a company that runs a ferry to Nova Scotia.

Councilors in Portland voted on Monday to approve renewal of Bay Ferries Ltd.’s lease of Ocean Gateway Terminal for 2018. The move ends months of uncertainty about whether the ferry, called The Cat, would be back.

The ferry is expected to return later this spring. The Bangor Daily News reports the new lease generally continues terms used in previous years. The company will pay rent to the city along with fees for disembarking passengers and vehicles.

Portland expects to get $190,000 from the agreement this year. That would be $10,000 less than 2017.
