Sale of Vermont Newspapers to Maine, New Hampshire Businessmen Nearly Complete

RUTLAND, Vt. — The sale of two Vermont newspapers to a pair of business people from Maine and New Hampshire is expected to be completed this week.

Rob Mitchell, editor and chief of the Rutland Herald and Times Argus, told employees in an email that they would find out more about the future from the new owners next week.

The company simultaneously announced the retirement of Publisher and CEO Catherine Nelson.

The papers announced in August they were being sold to Reade Brower of Maine and Chip Harris of New Hampshire, both of whom have extensive experience in publishing in northern New England.

Earlier this year, the papers cut back on publishing a printed newspaper from seven to four days a week, with online-only editions Monday through Wednesday.
