Some of the skiers dressed as Santa Claus ride the chairlift to participate in the Santa Sunday event, Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016, at the Sunday River ski resort in Newry. The event raises money for the Sunday River Community Fund, a local charity.

NEWRY, Maine — Santa’s helpers are hitting the slopes once again in Maine.

About 180 Saint Nick lookalikes hopped on skis and snowboards at Sunday River for the resort’s annual fundraiser called Santa Sunday. Organizers say the event brought in $2,845.

Online registration filled up in minutes for the popular event.

Participants were required to donate at least $15. In exchange, they get to ski for free and receive another lift ticket good through Dec. 16.
