Searchers Find Body of Man Lost in Kennebec River

ANSON, Maine (AP) _ The Maine Warden Service says it has recovered the body of a 21-year-old man who went missing in the Kennebec River in Anson while swimming.

The wardens say the body of Jordan Cummings of Anson was recovered on Friday at 8:55 a.m. Skowhegan police told the Portland Press Herald that Cummings is the son of Skowhegan Police Sgt. Joel Cummings.

Wardens say Cummings went swimming with two friends in the river on Thursday, had some sort of difficulty swimming, and went under water. A friend jumped into the water to try to save Cummings but was unsuccessful. Cummings was attempting to swim to a rope swing across the river.

Rescue crews began a search on Thursday night but could not find Cummings. Anson and Madison fire departments both responded.
