Skowhegan Fire Chief Fired After 3 Months on Job

SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Skowhegan Fire Chief Richard Fowler Jr. has been fired after just three months on the job.

Town Manager Christine Almand said she met with Fowler in her office Friday morning and fired him.

She did not disclose what prompted the move other than to say "Things didn't work out" during the probationary period.

Fowler refused to discuss the matter when contacted by the Morning Sentinel.

The 47-year-old Fowler had been chief in Farmington, New Hampshire, before landing in Skowhegan.

Fowler took over in May from 21-year chief Tom Keene.

Almand, who also started in May, appointed Capt. Shawn Howard as interim chief. The town will advertise the open job.
