Thibodeau Remains Winner of State Senate Race

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine's secretary of state says Republican Sen. Michael Thibodeau is officially the winner of the close race for the Waldo County state Senate seat.

Matthew Dunlap's office said Friday that the recount showed Thibodeau beat Democrat Michael Jonathan Fulford by 135 votes.

Recounts are set next week for Senate Districts 21 and 25.

A request for a recount was withdrawn in the Senate District 2 race, which includes parts of Aroostook and Penobscot Counties after the candidate withdrew his request. Unofficial results show that Republican Michael Willette beat Democrat Michael Carpenter for the seat.

There will also no longer be a recount for Senate District 13, which covers most of Lincoln County and parts of Kennebec and Knox counties. Unofficial results show Democratic Sen. Chris Johnson defeated Republican Les Fossel.
