Tornadoes Reported in Maine; None Confirmed

PORTLAND, Maine — Severe storms that rolled through Maine overnight left a swath of damage, power outages and even reports of tornadoes.

Mike Smith, emergency management director for Somerset County, tells the Morning Sentinel that there was a report of a tornado in the town of St. Albans.

Funnel clouds and tornadoes also were reported in Cornville, Mercer and Industry.

Meteorologist Tom Hawley of the National Weather Service in Gray said Wednesday no tornadoes have been confirmed, but agency inspectors will head out this week to survey the damage.

The state's two major electric utilities were reporting about 500 customers without power as of Wednesday morning.

No major injuries were reported.

A flash flood watch remains in effect through Wednesday for parts of western Maine.
