AUGUSTA, Maine - The sun did little to offset the wind chill of ten below zero, but about a hundred supporters of Donald Trump braved the cold at the State House on Saturday, to rally in support of the President.
“I know it’s a cold day, but we know that the president and his administration is going to turn the country around," Josh Tardy told the crowd. Tardy is a former Maine House Republican leader, and chair of Trump's Maine campaign. "He is going to make us safer, he is going to make us economically stronger and he is going to make America prosperous again.”
Tardy likens Trump to Maine Gov. Paul LePage, another candidate who Tardy said was given little chance of success. “Here we are, six years later where we are reforming welfare to help Maine’s most needy and Maine’s elderly. We have a billion dollars in the bank, which is a record. He has turned this state around.”
And Tardy said Trump will reform Washington.
Sen. Eric Brakey, a Republican from Auburn, also addressed the gathering. Insiders, he said, have controlled Washington for too long. “You don’t have to agree with Donald Trump on every issue to appreciate the repudiation of the Washington establishment." said Brakey.
The rally was part of a national day of action in support of President Trump.
