KENNEBUNK, Maine - About 200 people gathered on a Maine beach — some with dogs in tow — on Sunday to remember Barbara Bush, who with her husband, former President George H.W. Bush, spent years at their summer home in Kennebunkport.

Barbara Bush died on Tuesday at home in Houston at the age of 92. She was laid to rest on Saturday at her husband's presidential library in Texas.

At the Maine memorial, some also donated children's books to be given to two local libraries and a children's hospital in her memory.

Mainers are expressing grief over the loss of one of the state’s most famous summer residents. It wasn’t unusual for Maine residents to encounter former first lady Barbara Bush, who spent most summers at the family compound at Walker’s Point in Kennebunkport. And while she was here, she was active in the community, devoting time to local causes, especially those aimed at improving the lives of children.

HOUSTON - Doctors say former President George H.W. Bush will soon be moved from the intensive care unit at a Houston hospital where he has been treated for pneumonia.
Dr. Amy Mynderse says the 92-year-old Bush will be moved from the ICU at the Houston Methodist Hospital on Monday.
Bush was struggling to breathe when he was admitted to the hospital Jan. 14. Doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia and put him on a ventilator in the ICU to assist his breathing. The breathing tube was removed Friday.
