PORTLAND, Maine - Maine residents are holding "Congressional stakeouts'' outside Republican Sen. Susan Collins' Portland office to call for the preservation of their health care.
Organizers say activists are holding similar stakeouts at 32 Congressional offices across the country. The stakeouts at Collins' office are taking place on Thursday and Friday.
The activists say they want Collins and other leaders to oppose Republicans' proposed changes to health care. They say they fear loss of insurance, loss of access to Planned Parenthood and Medicaid and higher insurance premiums.
Collins says she is concerned about the Congressional Budget Office's estimate that millions of people could lose insurance coverage if the House proposal becomes law. She says that estimate should prompt the House slow down.
