Angus King Says He’ll Vote Against Supreme Court Nominee Neil Gorsuch

Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017.

Independent U.S. Sen. Angus King of Maine says he will vote against the confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In a written statement, King says he has carefully considered Gorsuch, attended his confirmation hearing and listened to Mainers who support and oppose the nominee. But ultimately King says he’ll oppose Gorsuch for several reasons: his refusal to answer questions about his judicial philosophy during his confirmation hearings, his record as an appellate judge who put the rights of corporations above their employees and for what King calls the “unchecked flow of dark money” that has gone into his nomination.

King says he will also oppose procedural efforts in the Senate to end debate and move the nomination forward.
