BANGOR, Maine (AP) _ A Maine conservation district is looking for a few big trees.
The Penobscot County Soil & Water Conservation District is holding its 1st Annual Penobscot County Big Tree Contest.
The district wants residents to nominate the biggest, tallest trees they can find to add to the state's registry of big trees. The nominating period begins on Sunday and runs until Sept. 15.
Organizers of the contest say the owners of Maine's ``champion trees'' will be recognized at the conservation district's annual banquet. Nominators of the winning trees will receive a tee-shirt.
