Welcome to Maine Public's inaugural CREATE IT Maine Recipe Contest inspired by all the wonderful cooking shows found on Maine Public's CREATE CHANNEL!
We — and our two SUPER partners in this contest, Barber Foods and Southern Maine Community College — are looking for amateur chefs and cooks to put together a fabulous side dish that is made from your own creative, original recipe where Maine grown ingredients are the hero.
Participating is really easy. Create a side dish that goes particularly well with a chicken-dish entrée. The more imaginative, the better! For inspiration, check out the chicken dishes and recommended side dishes found on Barber Foods' website. Your culinary imagination is bound to be kick started there!
Recipes will be judged using these criteria: Recipe and Preparation, Use of Maine Grown Ingredients, Originality/Creativity, and Visual Appeal. Entrants must submit their recipe in 500 words or less along with a final prepared dish photo. Multiple submissions are allowed.
ENTRY DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, MARCH 31 at MIDNIGHT! SEND YOUR SUBMISSION(S) TO US AT RSVP@MAINEPUBLIC.ORG.
Our Maine Public judging panel in combination with Maine Public’s Facebook following will review all qualifying entries and then narrow down the entrants to five finalists. These five finalists then will participate in a LIVE bake-off in a rock-star facility at Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) in South Portland. At the cook off, each dish will be prepared LIVE and judging criteria this time will include the tastiness of the dish.
The five finalists will each receive a limited edition Maine Public apron and gift certificates to help stock up their kitchens. The winner will receive new cookware and their recipe will be featured on the Barber Foods website!
