Environment Maine Critical of Poliquin Votes on Climate Change

WASHINGTON — Environment Maine is criticizing the House for passing two measures they say are aimed at dismantling the clean power plan that is crucial to the Obama Administration's efforts to tackle climate change.

With world leaders meeting in France on climate change, Laura Dorle says it's the wrong message to send to the world and to the state.

"We are already seeing tremendous impacts on climate change here in the 2nd Congressional District, and that includes public health impacts," she says.

Dorle praised 1st District U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree for opposing the measures and criticized Poliquin for supporting them.

Poliquin says he supports efforts to address climate change but they can't be at the cost of lost jobs in his district. He says the United States is leading the way in responsibly addressing the climate change issue.

"We have reduced our carbon footprint over the past ten or so years more than other industrialized country in the world, we just need to make sure we do not kill more jobs by increasing energy costs," he says.
