A Memorial Day parade in Freeport Monday morning drew a crowd to downtown’s main street. Resident Patricia Pratt says the parade is a regular part of her annual Memorial Day routine.
“I know many times it’s a big excuse for having sales, which I think is very wrong, but I prefer to celebrate for what it really means, and to honor our people,” she says.
Pratt was there with her husband, Don, a World War II veteran.
Resident Ken Goodenow says he served in the military in Japan, and he came to honor those who perished abroad.
“I just think about all the poor people who didn’t make it home, and their families. It had to be a lot for them to go through,” he says.
The Freeport parade was one of more than a dozen scheduled around the state to remember those who have died while serving in the military.
