LePage: Trump's Assertion He Might Not Accept Election Results a 'Stupid Comment'

AUGUSTA, Maine - Gov. Paul LePage says Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump made a big mistake during Wednesday's debate when he suggested he may not accept the results of the election if he loses.

The governor, who endorsed Trump earlier this year, told Portland radio station WGAN that he agrees with the real estate mogul and TV personality that the election is rigged, but he should take his lumps if he loses.

"Not accepting the results, I think is just ... it's a stupid comment," LePage said. "I mean, come on, get over yourself."

LePage went on to say that the American media has aligned against Trump while giving his rival Hillary Clinton a free pass. The governor also said he has not watched any of the debates.

Wednesday marked the third and final presidential debate. It was hosted by FOX News. When asked by moderator Chris Wallace if he would accept the election results if he loses, Trump said, "I will look at it at the time. I will keep you in suspense."

Clinton said Trump's response was horrifying.

"Let's be clear about what he is saying and what that means," she said. "He is denigrating ... he is talking down our democracy. And I am appalled that someone who is the nominee of one of our two major parties would take that position."

LePage did not attend Trump's rally in Bangor last weekend. He had introduced the Republican nominee at his three previous rallies in Maine.
