Gov. Paul LePage has vetoed six more bills, including two measures that rewrite the state’s marijuana laws.
LePage lists nearly a dozen objections to a measure that would change the medical marijuana law. He targeted another marijuana bill that he says would jeopardize public health, and he called on lawmakers to send him legislation that would provide more oversight of the medical marijuana program as the state implements adult recreational use.
The Governor also vetoed funding for the county jails, saying they already get enough money from the state and are not accountable for how they spend it. He also nixed a measure that would ban conversion therapy, which is used in an attempt to change an individual’s sexual orientation. The Governor says he is concerned that the measure would infringe on religious freedom.
Lawmakers will deal with these and dozens of other vetoes when they reconvene Monday.
