Maine to Receive More Than $3.7 Million to Improve Preschool Access

PORTLAND, Maine — Maine is among 18 states that will receive federal grant money through the Preschool Development Grants program to expand access to preschool education for children from low- and moderate-income families.

The U.S. Department of Education says Maine will receive a little more than $3.7 million. The money is part of more than $247 million being distributed among the 18 states.

The education department says the grants are going to states that are working with communities to prepare disadvantaged children for success in school.

Vermont also received $7.3 million, Massachusetts got $15 million, Connecticut received $11.7 million and Rhode Island was awarded $6 million.
