Oxford Modular Home Company Going Out of Business

A company that makes modular homes in Oxford has notified the Maine Department of Labor that it is going out of business.

Keiser Homes says it will close all of its facilities in Maine and several other states. About 120 workers in Maine will lose their jobs. Some had already been laid off earlier this spring.

Julie Rabinowitz, a spokesperson for the Labor Department, says the state has scheduled Rapid Response sessions to try to assist workers with unemployment and other services.

“Most likely most of them have already filed for unemployment, which is part of what we do in Rapid Response is educate people about the process,” she says. “But it’s not just about filing for unemployment. It’s really also focused on interim health care coverage and also about reemployment.”

Rabinowitz says the department has already heard from several employers in Cumberland, Androscoggin and Oxford counties who are interested in hiring workers in construction, management and other jobs.

The Rapid Response sessions will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in South Paris.
