READFIELD, Maine - The parents of a Maine elementary school student who filed a lawsuit claiming a teacher put a bag on the student's head several times have reached a proposed settlement.
The Kennebec Journal reports that the $95,000 settlement includes $15,000 for the family, $5,500 for their child's therapy sessions and $10,000 for a trust for the child.
Michelle and Adam Woodford claimed in their lawsuit that Readfield Elementary School teacher Laura Reville put a paper bag over their daughter's head four times in the fall of 2015. The Woodfords claimed the teacher's actions led to bullying from other students.
Both the district and the teacher denied the allegations, and neither party acknowledges liability in the settlement.
The settlement needs a judge's signature before it becomes final.
