Protesters Rally Outside Collins' Portland Office To Urge 'No' Vote On GOP Tax Bill

About half a dozen local residents gathered to protest at Sen. Susan Collins' Portland office Wednesday  after the Republican hinted at supporting the GOP tax bill.

Supporters say the bill will benefit everyone. But protesters, including Kathy Bouchard of Scarborough, worry that the majority of Mainers will suffer under the proposed tax cuts.

Bouchard, a Democrat, says she has voted for Collins in the past, and she now regrets that decision.

"I am very concerned that she may vote for this terrible GOP tax bill," Bouchard says. "It really will not benefit Mainers at all. And I am also very disappointed and I probably won't vote for her again."

It is still unclear whether or not Sen. Collins will support the bill. But Mary McVey, an independent from Cape Elizabeth, says she's not holding out much hope for a no vote.

"I have zero confidence that Sen. Collins will hear the majority for the people's view in Maine," she says. "History has shown me that Republicans are in office, she votes with them."

A second rally was held in Sen. Collins' Lewiston office.
