Teen Boy Drowns in Aroostook River

FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine - A 14 year old boy has died while swimming in the Aroostook River with friends. According to the Maine Warden Service, the Fort Fairfield boy drowned Saturday evening near the confluence of the Hockenhull Brook.

A spokesman for the wardens says one of the boy's friends tried unsuccessfully to come to his aid, after the boy had indicated that he was in trouble. Their companions called 911.  Maine Game Warden Alan Dudley responded and dived into the river where he located the boy's body in about 10 feet of water.  The victim had been submerged for about 45 minutes.

Authorities are warning recreational swimmers and boaters that river conditions in many places around Maine remain very cold and waters high.
