After an exhaustive search, we have selected two hikers who are taking on the Appalachian Trail this spring and summer to test our Maine Public App out in the fringes of civilization. Danny Moody of Winthrop and Dan Giguere of Manchester (ME) along with Danny’s dog Daisy are our first adventurers in our Here to There and Back project.
Meet Maine Public's AT hiking team!
Along their journey, Danny and Dan will remain connected and engaged with all that is Maine using our crazy-good Maine Public App. This is not a test of the App itself, but rather an opportunity to integrate this amazing outdoor experience with our newest digital offering. And they will report on their experiences and, in small part, how the Maine Public App has helped them remain connected to Maine, providing blog posts, audio diaries and other content back to the state.
While officially on their own, our intrepid hikers will be provided with resources courtesy of the sponsor of Here to There and Back, Goodwin Motor Group and their Land Rover lineup gear. AND Garmin International Inc. has donated two inReach Satellite Communicators to the trek. AND two Portland-based companies have provided specialty gear as well: FLOWFOLD based on Peak's Island who believe that "everyday adventures are for everyone, everywhere, forever" and NOMADS on Commercial Street in Portland, a retailer of "Adventure and Active Wear for People on the Move." AND Frenchies' Natural Products has provided the team with a healthy supply of Frenchies' Maine Woods Bug Dope, a DEET-free, natural repellent, to use throughout their trek. A HUGE THANKS all of these amazing companies!
Look for more information later in APRIL on ways that you can follow along on their journey. Stay tuned!
